Annual Stockmen’s Dinner 2010

The fifth annual Stockmen’s Dinner and Cattle Show Presentation night was held in King’s School’s Monastic Barn on Friday, 25th March. Pymoor Show Committee (the organiser) is delighted to report that 116 people attended, a fantastic increase from 4 years ago, when it began with 42 attendees. The “On Farm” Cattle Competition is gaining momentum every year and the judging had to take place over three days, as there were so many entries.
The 2010 judge was Tim Lee of Anglia Quality Meats, who kindly gave up a long weekend in wet and cold March to visit 20 farms to judge 24 herds. This encompassed an area from Ely and district to Brampton, Lakenheath and Bury St. Edmunds. Tim was accompanied by Chris Jackson, the competition organiser and Andrew (the lens) Moore, the official photographer of the competition.
On completion of the meal, judge Tim Lee gave an interesting and informative in-depth review of the herds and individual cattle presented to him, which was supported by photographs taken by Andrew. Tim commented on the high standard of the cattle shown for his judging and praised the efforts that all the herd owners, breeders and managers had put into preparing the stock and their surroundings during such bad weather. His review was followed by the eagerly awaited results and the presentation of the class trophies and rosettes.
On behalf of the Pymoor Show Committee, John Pinnells, Co-Chairman, thanked Tim, Andrew and Chris for all their hard work over the competition weekend. John also thanked all those who had entered their herds into the competition and to everyone present for their continued support and for attending the dinner in such numbers.
As in previous years, the On-Farm Cattle Competition is part of the run-up to Pymoor Agricultural and Country Show to be held this year on Saturday, 3rd July. There are still some sites available both on the open showground and in the marquee. As always, the main purpose of Pymoor Show is to raise money for national and local charities.
